Obituary

Thomas (Tom) Albert Parris was born in Tahlequah, Oklahoma on April 26, 1933 to Irene Young Parris and William Curtis Parris. He died at the age of 87 on August 26, 2020 in Springdale, Arkansas.
Tom attended school in Tahlequah until he enlisted in the Air Force in March 1948 at the age of 14. Tom served in Germany from 1948 – 1950. While in Germany at age 15, he drove an ambulance and became a medic which became his career field. After Germany Tom was assigned to several Aircraft Control and Warning (ACNW) sites in the United States.
From 1955 – 1958 Tom was assigned to Lages Field A.F.B. in the Azores Islands. While there he had the privilege of assisting in the delivery of 395 babies. Tom also served at Pease A.F.B. in New Hampshire and Shepard A.F.B. in Texas before retiring at the ripe old age of 34.
Tom lived in Galt, CA from 1996 – 2019 before moving to Springdale, Arkansas.
Tom was proud of all of his accomplishments in life including; owning several gas stations, working on nuclear subs after his military service, becoming a private pilot, owning and training race horses including being a professional harness race horse driver at the age of 76. Tom’s most recent accomplishment was being recognized by the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma and awarded the Cherokee Warrior Medal of Patriotism by Chief Chuck Hoskin, Jr. and the Tribal Council Members.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Bob, Jim, Blake, Donald, Billie Ruth Medlin, and Sue Ann Anno.
He is survived by his loving wife Janet Parris, siblings Sally Berry and Jerry Parris, and a host of nieces, and nephews that loved him dearly.
A memorial service will be held at a later date at the Parris Cemetery in Gideon, Oklahoma.
