Obituary

Robert William Eaton, 87, of Gentry, AR, died Wednesday, July 15, 2020 at his home. He was born Aug. 30, 1932 in San Diego, CA to Clifford and Flora Eaton.
Robert graduated 12th grade at San Pasqual Academy, in Escondido, CA. He then attended LaSierra College. Eventually, he graduated with a teaching degree from Madison College in Tennessee. While there, he met Ruby, and they were married in 1960. Since they were both teachers, through the years, they sometimes enjoyed team-teaching in several Adventist schools.
In their early years together, they organized a church school in the Appalachian Mountains of Virginia. They also helped with prophecy meetings, singing inspirational duets. For these meetings, Robert did fluorescent chalk drawings under a black light to illustrate the message for the evening.
In the 90s, they were called to Colorado, where Robert found ways to minister for the Lord. He became an EMT for awhile, then later served as a substitute teacher. In his teaching, he used his talents of music, art, and knowledge of Spanish. And since he usually responded quickly to go to any school, he was kept quite busy. He was also kept busy for a time pastoring a couple churches in the plains of Colorado for a time.
Upon retirement, Robert and Ruby moved to Gentry. They even had their double-wide mobile home moved from Colorado, as that seemed the best option at the time. Robert took with him a deep, abiding love for the Lord, and has always used his God-given talents to minister to others wherever he has lived. All his life, he earnestly looked forward to being with Jesus in the life to come, and strived to have a close transforming relationship with Him. In the last few years of Robert’s life, he memorized a quote, and recited it even days before he passed away. It seemed to illustrate his humble life-focus on Jesus as his personal Savior:
“Lord, take my heart; for I cannot give it. It is Thy property. Keep it pure, for I cannot keep it for Thee. Save me in spite of myself - my weak, unchristlike self. Mold me, fashion me, raise me into a pure and holy atmosphere, where the rich current of Thy love can flow through my soul.” Christ’s Object Lessons, p. 159
Robert is survived by his wife, Ruby (they were married 60 years), and four daughters, Rhonda, Velda, Charlotte and Kerry. There are seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother and a sister.
A memorial service is to be held Saturday, August 1st, at 4:00 p.m. at the Gentry Seventh-day Adventist Church, 21090 Dawn Hill East Road, Gentry, AR 72734.
