Obituary

Phyllis Jean McKown , age 77, of Springdale, died Wednesday, November 6th, 2019. Phyllis was born August 17, 1942 in Ft. Smith, Arkansas to Percy and Nellie Redden.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Kerry, Gary and Bill Redden and a grandson, Nathan McKown.
Phyllis is survived by her husband of 58 years , Jim McKown , two sons, Jeff McKown and wife Nancy and Scott McKown and wife Kristi, two brothers, Bud Redden and Buzzy Redden and a sister, Cynthia Clegg, 3 grandchildren, Rebecca McKown, Ben McKown and Kaylee McKown.

Phyllis was an avid reader and she loved working jigsaw puzzles with her husband, Jim. . At any given time, you could walk into her house and find a complex puzzle on the kitchen table. Her granddaughter, Kaylee, often assisted when visiting.
She loved to “talk” but her most recent hobby was DIY workshops at Board and Brush Creative Studios . Phyllis had made several wood signs since August and this is the only time she was still! She loved it so much that she was booking new workshops before she was even out the door with her current project.
She loved Razorback basketball and wanted her Razorback socks on even while in the hospital. She always dressed snazzy for whatever the occasion, and could rock her assortment of hats!
She attended New Horizons Church in Springdale
She was a 1988 graduate from the University of Arkansas, where she earned her BS degree in Food and Institutional Management. She was retired from the Department of Human Services in Fayetteville.
.
Visitation will be held Saturday November 16th from 10:00-11:00 am with a Memorial Service at 11:00 am at Westfield Chapel Funeral Home 3236 W. Huntsville Ave. Springdale, AR 72762,

So sorry for your loss. I worked with Phyllis at DHS and retired within a month of each other. I will always remember her stories and our laughter at our lunch in the break room. She always had the best lunch cause Jim made sure she ate healthy when he fixed her lunch. Phyllis was a unique individual and I wish I could have made signs with her. What fun we would have had. They probably would have told us we couldn’t be there at same time—too much fun. I know you will miss her but I have no doubt she has a special spot in heaven. You were blessed to have her as wife, mother, grandmother as I was to call her friend. My prayers for all of you

I was so sad to hear the news that PJ passed away. She was one of the sweetest people I have ever met. Phyllis was always soft spoke and kind, she brightened up our lives daily. My condolences to her family, take comfort in knowing she is in the lords arms now and pain free. We will miss you PJ.
