Obituary

Eva Van Tassell, age 89, of Springdale, Arkansas passed early morning on Tuesday, February 12th, 2019. Eva was born in Akron, Ohio on January 4, 1930 to Joseph and Elizabeth Vargo. In 1952 she married Donald William Van Tassell Sr. They moved to Fort Bragg, North Carolina while Don was stationed there with the 82nd Airborne. After the military, they moved to Chicago, Illinois for a short period, but decided the winters were way to cold. So, in 1958, Eva bought property, sight unseen in Punta Gorda, Florida. They packed up their things and moved to the sunshine state where they lived from 1958 until 1999. They then moved to Huntsville, Alabama to be closer to family. They lived there for 13 years. Eva and her two cats moved to Arkansas in September 2014, she enjoyed living in an apartment by herself for the first time in her life. Eva had a bad fall in June 2015, this is when she moved into the Springdale Health and Rehab.
Eva was preceded in death by her husband Donald William Van Tassell Sr. and her daughter Elizabeth (Libby) Ann McDonald. Survivors include Skip Van Tassell, his spouse Marcia of Springdale, AR, three grandchildren, Chad Van Tassell, his spouse Corinna of Springdale, AR, Ashley Hendrix her spouse Wilson of Allen, TX, and Summer McDonald of Huntsville, AL, seven great- grandchildren, Autumn Green, Tyler Van Tassell, Caylor Howard, Kailey Van Tassell, Ethan Hendrix, Seraphina Hendrix, and Cooper Van Tassell, and one great-great grandchild Evelyn Green.

Eva had an extremely kind nature and made friends easily. She was loved by all that knew her. She loved to laugh and tell stories about her life.
She enjoyed her pen pals (foremost was Pat Mason), reading, crossword puzzles, and Home Improvement TV shows. But most of all she enjoyed shouting out the answers on Jeopardy and she looked forward to watching the nightly Wheel of Fortune show with Skip and Marcia.
While living at the Springdale Health and Rehab for the past 3 ½ years, she had the pleasure of having so many wonderful aides and nurses to care for her. Eva became their family, and she loved them. She thought of herself as the “Mom/Grandma” to the aides and nurses. She will miss them as much as they will miss her.
Eva will be missed by her family and friends. She will be loved, but never forgotten.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Hospice of NW Arkansas or the American Heart Association.

My deepest sympathy goes out to you and your family. I hope you find comfort in the scripture at Acts 24:15. This is what our God Jehovah promises for us all. And we can look forward to what is written in Psalm 37:9-11 and 29.

My deepest sympathy to Skip and Marcia, Summer, and all of Eva's family. Eva and I have been pen pals since 2014 after the passing of my friend from Jr. High school (and beyond) Eva's daughter, Libby. Eva's letters always expressed such a positive outlook, and so much kindness toward every person, that I was always uplifted by her words. I will always remember Eva as a generous, loving, and kind friend. I will miss her deeply. My thoughts are with her family. Wunda Weaver Shuga
